BlomURBEX - Enabling measuring / export tools
BlomURBEX provides watermarked obique and ortho imagery for viewing without charge. Should you wish to enable further options, it is necessary to licence the required area which you will subsequently be able to access for the period of the licence (1 year) with the following functionality:
- imagery without watermarks
- imagery export options
- measure - spot height, height, distance, area, bearing
- access to new imagery when captured
Selecting an area to enable tools:
In GoogleMaps mode:
For the full range of area licensing methods, start in GoogleMaps mode - this can be done before or after first viewing the watermarked BlomURBEX data as required.
Step 1: Firstly, navigate to the required location (search / pan & zoom)
Step 2: Select "Enable Measure/Export"
Three types of area are available:
- Radius - a circular coverage, default value is 1 hectare (minimum charge)
- Size - a square/rectangular area, default value is 1 hectare (minimum charge)
- Custom Area - enabled the option do define an irregular area
Pick the required option and after specify a reference
Step 3: Placing required coverage area
- Either click on the required centre point (circle / rectangle) or start clicking to define a polygon (custom) and double click to close the polygon when complete.
- Once added, the size of a shape may be altered and nodes may be added to custom polygons.
- It is also possible to switch between GoogleMaps mapping, satellite and hybrid views in order to better define your required area.

In BlomURBEX mode:
When in BlomURBEX mode, basic area options can be added (circle or square) which are then shown in Google Maps mode. Licensing may then be completed by following steps 3 to 5 above.
Using pre-existing licensed areas:
Once a licensed area has been established, it is visible as a pink outline on the mapping.
Existing licensed areas may be located either by:
- zooming to your required area and looking for the pink coverage area
- selecting a named area you (or another member of your company) have licensed in the last year
Working within your licensed areas:
On establishing a licensed area, the measure and export tools may be selected and the watermark is removed from the imagery in all views.
The system tracks the screen centre position and on moving beyond the licensed area, the watermarking returns and the tools are again disabled.
To help navigate and track position within a licensed area, the pink area outline is also visible in the GoogleMaps insert overlain on the BlomURBEX view.
Extending existing licensed areas:
Should you require the option to measure beyond your current licensed area(s), simply mark out the new area required as usual.
On reaching the confirmation of price, you will have the option to add a new area at full cost for a 1 year licence or the option to pay only for the extended area but with the same licence expiry as the original order.
Enabling regional areas / requesting new coverage:
If you work extensively in specific regions (e.g. Greater London, Edinburgh, Cardiff etc...) then you may prefer to request that we enable an entire region at a discounted rate. e-mail a request
