National Tree Map

Trees play a vital role in day to day life – improving the air we breathe, providing valuable habitats for our wildlife, and conserving energy by naturally cooling nearby buildings. However, they also pose a risk to properties, networks and subterranean assets, by causing subsidence or pipeline fractures through root damage, and endangering overhead lines through trees falling and loose branches. It is therefore essential that those involved in tree and vegetation management have access to the most accurate and comprehensive tree mapping data available. This tree mapping data is available as part of the National Tree Map, using both traditional mapping along with aerial and satellite imagery. The attributes that this data provides can then be expanded into 3D geometry.

What is Bluesky's National Tree Map?

The National Tree Map provides detailed vegetation and woodland data to support environmental analysis, planning applications and early stage site assessment where understanding existing tree coverage is important. The National Tree Map functions as an add-on to the OS MasterMap, giving you additional vegetation data alonside detailed mapping.

The National Tree Map can be used alongside other geospatial datasets to support more comprehensive site analysis and planning workflows. When combined with aerial imagery, height data and field boundary information, it helps provide a clearer understanding of vegetation coverage, land use and environmental constraints across a site.

Why use tree mapping data from the National Tree Map
  • Tree management (including tree preservation orders)

  • Insurance and risk assessment

  • Flood and pollution monitoring
